CAASPP / CAST / ELPAC

Testing Window: February 2 - May 29, 2026

The ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) tests students whose primary language is not English. It measures skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing to determine English proficiency.

There are two types: the Initial ELPAC (given when a student first enrolls) and the Summative ELPAC (given yearly to track progress).

Students will be tested throughout the testing window in reading, writing, and speaking.

Testing Window: April 20 - 24, 2026

The CAASPP ELA Exam is administered to 
11th graders, it is a state-mandated assessment designed to measure students' proficiency in English Language Arts according to California’s Common Core State Standards.

The exam is computer-based and includes multiple-choice questions, short responses, and a Performance Task (PT) that requires students to read several sources and write a well-organized essay based on a given prompt.

Performance on this exam helps determine whether students are on track for college and career readiness. Scores may also be used by some California colleges to determine placement in college-level English courses.

Testing Dates: April 30, 2026 and May 1, 2026

​The California Science Test (CAST) is a state assessment administered to 10th-grade students (and 11th/12th graders who did not take it the previous year.)

This exam measures how well students understand important science concepts based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do in science.

The test covers key areas such as:

• Life sciences (biology and living organisms)
• Physical sciences (physics and chemistry)
• Earth and space sciences (geology, weather, space)
• Engineering and technology (applying science to solve problems)

The CAST test results are used to help schools and teachers understand how well students are learning science. They guide educators in improving teaching methods and identifying areas where students may need extra support.

Testing Window: May 18 - 22, 2026

The CAASPP Mathematics Assessment is administered to all 11th-grade students in California as part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system. This exam evaluates students’ abilities in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, procedural fluency, and real-world application of math concepts.

The assessment consists of two parts:

1. Computer-Adaptive Test (CAT): Tailors question difficulty to the student’s performance.
2. Performance Task (PT): Requires applying math knowledge to solve complex, real-life problems.

​Results are used to measure college and career readiness and may be considered by some California State University (CSU) campuses and community colleges to determine a student’s placement in college-level math courses.
